One of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) in Saturday's governorship election primary in Ondo
State, Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba has allegedly referred to all Ondo people
as bastard for failing to cast their votes for him in the election after
spending millions of naira, reports NewsDay.
The Owo-born politician was reported to have come out of the venue of the exercise on Saturday ranting, shouting and lamenting.
Ekungba,
who hails from Owo LGA of the state with the winner of the election,
Rotimi Akeredolu, said with fury and lamentation that the people of Ondo
State collected his money and deceived him by failing to cast their
votes for him in the primaries after spending millions of naira.
Ekungba,
before storming out of the venue was seen on the podium celebrating
with Akeredolu after the latter was announced winner of the election,
reports The Herald.
He
said “I am highly disappointed in the people of Ondo, they are bastards
and betrayals. They deceived me. I spent over N300 million naira on
reaching out to each of the delegates alone. Even before the primaries I
had spent millions of naira. After collecting my money they gave me
just 44 votes.”
“From today I will never help any Ondo State indigene, I’ll rather give out my money to the Hausa beggars on the street,” Ekungba lamented.

Akeredolu scored 669 votes to win the
election, which was held at the International Event Centre, Akure, the
Ondo State capital, reports News 24
Akeredolu,
a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) defeated
Olusegun Abraham, the preferred candidate of the national leader of the
party, Bola Tunubu.
Abraham, an international businessman and a one-time Chairman of Owena
Motel under Governor Adefarati, scored 635 votes to place second in the
race.
Twenty-four aspirants initially contested the poll but Dr. Paul Akintelure was later announced to have officially stepped down.
